On the single speed unit, no. On the variable speed unit, yes by squeezing the lever more or less.

Will pushing the unit faster than it drives while the drive is engaged do damage to the drive system?

No, this won’t hurt anything.

What would cause the unit to move/slip gears? Can the customer fix this?

This would be an internal transmission problem that will require a service center for repair.

Why won’t the drive disengage when lever is released?

This could be a cable adjustment. This info is in the operator’s manual.

If cable adjustment does not work unit will need to be seen by a service center.

What is a side discharge mower?

This type of mower discharges the grass clippings out the side of the cutting deck.

What is a bagging mower?

This type of mower discharges the grass clippings into a bag

What is a mulching mower?

This type of mower has a special blade to cut up the grass into smaller bits that can be left in top of the lawn to decompose.   Mulching mowers generally have more powerful engines than
conventional mowers, because it takes more power to re-cut clippings into mulch.

What is the proper way to tip a mower to drain the oil or clean it?

First, remove the spark plug wire. Important: Drain the fuel tank using a suitable container. (Use a hand pump or remove the fuel line) Note: DO NOT use an electric drill.  Tip unit up or on its side so the air filter is up.  You may also use a fuel/oil siphon kit (part #5430web for 1.6 L size  or #5431web for large 4 L size).

Why does unit begin to be hard to push?

Dirt and debits in the wheel, worn tilted wheels.

Which is faster the variable speed or the single speed mower?

The single speed unit travels at 2.3 MPH; the variable speed unit travels up to 4 MPH.

What is the flap on the back for?

This is the trailing shield. This is a safety device, it will help to stop debris from coming out from under the mower and it will also make the unit a little harder to pull backwards.

Why does grass come out from the side discharge when I am bagging?

The bag is full or there is a problem with the side discharge door.

What can be done with a unit that is throwing grass all over the base when using the bagger?

Be sure that the bag is assembled and installed properly and the door is holding it tight.

If these are ok, unit will need to be seen by a service center.

Any damage to the engine or mower itself if a customer uses a worn blade for too long?

With a dull blade there is more drag and friction with the grass. This slows the engine making it work harder which in turn slows the blade resulting in even less grass that's cut. A sharp blade will leave a smooth edge, whereas a dull blade will leave the grass blade looking like a torn piece of paper. This will leave a brown "sheen" to the lawn, along with leaving the grass plant susceptible to disease.

Does cutting wet grass cause additional wear on the unit?

Same as above, this slows the engine making it work harder which in turn slows the blade resulting in even less grass that’s cut. Wet grass is also going to stick to the bottom of the deck and if it’s not cleaned this will cause the mower to rust.

Why does the grass clump or look unsightly?

There are a few things that could cause this.

Blade: A mandatory requirement for any mulching mower is a sharp blade in order for the unit mulch properly.

Moisture: Wet grass does not mulch. Cut grass only if it is dry, approximately 24 hours after a heavy rain.

Speed: Cut at a speed slow enough for the unit to cut the grass and re-cut the clippings into mulch.

Height: Keep grass cut at regular intervals, usually once every 5 to 7 days (Some cases more often). If grass gets too long you may have to take half the swath or cut the lawn twice, the first time long and the second time to the desired height. If more than 1/3 of the length of grass is cut at one time, the grass could turn brown.

Why is the blade rattling?  The mower is vibrating

There are a few things to check:

Has the blade been recently changed?  Make sure the blade hub was torqued properly, should be torqued to 30 ft. lbs.

Did you hit something when mowing?  Impact to the blade may cause the blade to loosen or the crankshaft to bend, this must be sent to the dealer.
